During my first semester of university I worked on a racing game project called "Triple A" (a pun on the fact that all the characters' names began with A, really!). The game was a slower take on F-Zero with an emphasis on trying to shoot at the other cargo ships, which caused their cargo to drop. Whoever reached the goal with the most cargo, won. Shooting spent some of your cargo, so there was an interesting balance to the shooting aspect. While working as a designer for the game (and the race track itself) I also spent some time creating assets for the game, such as the asteroids' models and textures, particle effects, and the set-up for the models' textures and materials. In addition, I was also responsible for the post-processing effects, such as bloom and the aurora effect that resulted from it.
The textures for the asteroids were cropped from NASA pictures of large natural satellites and meteorites.
